Lock Folder is a small-sized and portable software application whose goal is to protect sensitive data from pry eyes by password-protecting your folders.
It does not comprise any complicated options or configuration settings, making the app accessible even to users with little or no previous experience in software utilities.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the executable file to any directory on the hard disk and just click it to run.
There is also the possibility of saving Lock Folder to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no prior installers.
What’s more, the tool does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving the disk clean after removal.
The interface is represented by a very small window with a simple structure that automatically stays on top of other frames (this option cannot be changed).
So, all you have to do is point out the folder you want to protect by dragging it to the panel, and set a key. The next time you try to access that directory, Lock Folder will prompt you for the password.
It is necessary to add the key every time after unlocking it. However, the protected directories can be removed from the computer by just deleting them, so it’s not exactly bulletproof. There are no other notable options provided by this software program.
It does not put a strain on PC performance, as it runs on a very low quantity of CPU and RAM. We have not come across any type of issues throughout our evaluation, since the app did not hang, crash or pop up error messages.
All in all, Lock Folder provides a simple solution to locking folders with passwords, and can be handled by all user levels.
